How high-end products are helping Africa
Eden Diodati. A Label of love. Named in part after the utopic garden, sources of inspiration range from the metaphorical universal ties of the human condition to the visual elements of botanical phases, elemental components of life, astronomy, minerals, neo-classical sculpture and molecular biology. The clasp of one of the bracelet cuffs for Autumn Winter 2014 replicates the molecular structure of Oxytocin, the hormone that makes us love and trust others. Our accessories are produced in a social cooperative in Rwanda. Here, women who survived the genocide many of whom contracted HIV during the conflict, have been given the support to utilize their skills and are rebuilding their lives through dignified enterprise. Our ready-to-wear garments are handmade in a social cooperative in Vicenza, Italy. Giving enhanced meaning to the ‘Made in Italy’ label, disenfranchised women, some of whom are physically and mentally disabled, are being empowered.
Although we provide sustainable employment to formerly marginalised and vulnerable women, and use eco fabrics (GOTS certified organic silks), our collections are design-led and exceptionally high quality; our customers want to invest in our pieces even without knowing the back story. Our circle of ethical production enables them to empower disadvantaged women sustainably and offers women the opportunity to experience true beauty through compassion. Additionally, we donate 10% of dividends to Médecins sans Frontières.
ITALY Eden Diodati’s ready to wear collections are crafted in an Italian social cooperative that builds skills, employment opportunities and self-esteem for those who would otherwise be excluded from society. This not-for-profit organisation seeks to rehabilitate recovering addicts, people living with mental illness, disabled people and victims of abuse. It is managed by a team who have chosen to dedicate their lives to social development. Giving enhanced meaning to ‘Made in Italy,’ those who had been pushed to the fringes of society have been given the support to utilize their skills and the chance to rebuild their lives through dignified enterprise. RWANDA Eden Diodati works with an extraordinary cooperative of women who survived the genocide in Rwanda. Employing centuries old artisanal heritage and craftsmanship, their skill, courage, fortitude and faith inspires Eden Diodati’s creative direction, whilst challenging pre-conceptions of ‘Made in Africa’.
Wearing an Eden Diodati piece is more than an aesthetic statement. It is a commitment to a fashion ethos embedded in a four-tiered philosophy represented by Eden Diodati’s Talisman. The Talisman draws together four brand values that together reflect the optimism of the human condition: Art & Collaboration: An amalgam of global cultures influences the design. Manufactured Ethically: Delivering opportunities for marginalised people to recreate their own futures. Bringing the talents of artisans to the fore; acting as a conduit for their craftmanship and creativity. Wearable Philanthropy: Eden Diodati’s commitment to donate 10% of dividends to Médecins sans Frontières recognises the need to address human fragility on a global scale. Beauty Through Compassion: A visionary brand offering style conscious women the opportunity to experience true beauty that measures the value of a luxury product not just on its aesthetic, but also on its environmental and social impact.
